What's been happening at the humble basement of the magnificent museum building since its opening in 1998 is the 'underground'-literally-exhibitions to 'excavate' non-established young artist.
Lee Bul, the curator of this show, presents six multimedia-based artists in their twenties under the title of "Soup".
Emphasizing its association with stickiness, which represents the artists minute sentiment toward their memory and self-reflection with a hint of humour.
In the center of the garage, Ji-a Jang present Physical Condition to be an Artist, a video prosection featuring a close-up of the artist herself, in which she is sadistically being abused by the hand of an unseen guy plucking off her long neat hair and throwing eggs at her. Her effects to keep smiling are spoiled by the brutal force.
Jang represents the violence of the system by revealing her masochistic position…..
1998년 개관 이래 화려한 미술관 빌딩의 보잘것없는 지하에서는 말 그대로 젊은 작가를 발굴하는 ‘언더그라운드’전시가 진행되고 있다.
이 전시의 기획자 이불은 “스프”라는 타이틀을 가지고 6명의 그들의 20대에 있는 멀티미디어작가들을 소개하며 집착, 즉 예술가들이 그들의 기억과 자기반영에 대해 갖는 미세한 감정들을 약간의 유머와 함께 보여준다.
주차장 중앙에서 프로젝트 되고 있는 작품의 장지아의 ‘작가가 되기 위한 신체적 조건’ 이라는 작품으로 한 남자의 손이 그녀의 머리를 잡아당기고 그녀에게 계란을 던지는 등 작가를 학대하는 사디스트적인 클로즈업 영상이다. 항상 미소를 유지하려는 그녀의 노력은 야만적인 힘 앞에 무너진다. 여기서 장지아는 그녀의 매조키즘적인 위치를 드러내는 것을 통해 폭력의 시스템을 보여준다.
